A living tree

Lord,

let me be a living tree.

In Your grace,

make me grow.

Let my roots sink down deep

into the rich soil of Your Word.

Let Your Truth

nourish me,

strengthen me,

ground me firmly

in You.

Let me not strive anxiously
(as if I could force the growth)

but humbly accept

Your tending.

Send the brightness of Christ

to shine upon me –

may the Son’s light be my daily food.

Send the rains

of blessing and difficulty

and let me drink them all up

that I may grow.

Withhold not the wind and storms

to break off the dead branches.

When I’m parched,

water me.

When sin-disease creeps in,

prune me.

Cultivate my soul in your loving care

that I may become a healthy tree,

bearing spiritual fruit –

love,

joy,

patience,

peace.

Lord,

let me be a living tree.

In Your grace,

make me grow.
