… the Blog

“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary.”  (From Luke 10:41-42)

Worry.  I think we all struggle with it sometimes.  There are just so many things that are easy to worry about — family, friends, health, housework, jobs, and the like.  But you know what Jesus says?  ”One thing is necessary.”

One.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says:

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.‭‭
— Matthew 6:31-33‬

Did you hear that?  If we seek God first, he’ll take care of it all.  Do you believe Him?

I didn’t start this blog because I’m the model Mary — in fact, as someone who struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder and perfectionism, I relate much more easily to her bustling sister.  I started the blog because I need frequent reminders that Jesus is The Most Important Thing, and maybe you do, too.  My prayer is that these posts will help gently guide you and I to the Good Portion each day.

Lord, give us hearts that seek You first.

… the Author

I’m Bethany.  I’m a thirty-something wife to a wonderful Christian husband, and I’m the mother of two sweet little girls.  Besides writing, I enjoy reading, art and crafts, being outside, yoga, cooking, and learning about natural health.  I used to teach 5th grade social studies, but now I enjoy teaching Bible class and my girls at home.  I also happen to struggle with OCD, so while I write this blog in hopes of helping those who read it, it’s great therapy for me, too.

Thank you for reading.  Blessings to you!
